This article investigates artificial intelligence's impacts on Knowledge and Information Science professions, analyzing challenges and opportunities while identifying emerging skills and occupations for digital transformation, particularly in agriculture. By automating repetitive tasks, AI has created challenges including job displacement, increased retraining costs, and ethical concerns, alongside opportunities such as enhanced human capacities, focus on creative work, and improved productivity. Human intelligence retains superiority through contextual understanding, ethical judgment, creativity, emotional intelligence, and general intelligence. To adapt, information professionals must acquire emerging skills including advanced information retrieval, data analytics, intelligent resource management, AI ethics, and continuous learning. These competencies enable emerging roles such as AI Ethicist, AI Trainer, Machine Learning Engineer, and Natural Language Processing Specialist. Applying these capacities in agriculture can enhance education, research, extension services, farmer productivity, and sustainable development. Ultimately, by acquiring these skills and embracing new professional roles, information scientists can serve as bridges between intelligent technologies and end-users in sectors like agriculture, ensuring their professional relevance while contributing to national digital transformation and productivity growth.
